Project Description
The only access to this small garden was through the low-ceilinged cottage, which created its own set of problems for us to overcome. The client wanted a garden which didn’t need too much regular maintenance – such as lawn mowing – but where she could still enjoy gardening. Using her friend’s design we constructed this gravel garden with a paved seating area beneath a pergola with edging bricks to keep the gravel out of the beds. As a keen gardener she has gone on to add many plants to the gravel and up the pergola, softening the look of the garden.
In using this design Jamie turned a nondescript, impractical outdoor area into a garden that has form and order. My thanks go to the two skilful workers who coped with the difficulties my garden presented…the results will always delight me.
